How can I not enjoy coming home when on arrival I’m spoiled with my favorite dishes? These are called “chiftele” in Romanian and are similar with the Greek meatballs Keftedes. Trust me, they’re very yummy.
Subway sign, London
Seven hours layover in London on the way to Bucharest was enough time for a short trip to the city. Trafalgar Square was packed to the gills with people, all there to celebrate Pride Day. Many roads were blocked either because of the celebration or for repairs in preparation for the 2012 Olympics.
Aerial view, northeast of San Francisco
I spent half of the day packing and the other half on the plane so in terms of photos I didn’t have many choices. I happened to snap a few shots after taking off from San Francisco and I chose this photos for today: an aerial view of a farm of wind turbines located north east of the city.
San Francisco’s Union Square
Thursday June 30th I was out and about downtown San Francisco on a last minute shopping spree before flying back to Romania. The weather was gorgeous, even more so considering that this was one of the few sunny days that the month of June shared with San Francisco. The weather this past month was as the saying goes “The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco”, one of the funniest (and true) words that Mark Twain never said. But Thusday was sunny and warm and it felt so good that it inspired me to take a break from shopping and enjoy a lemonade in Union Square, a small plaza in downtown San Francisco. The heart sculpture is part of an annual public art installation started in 2004 by the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation for the purpose of fundraising. It was inspired by the CowParade and by Tony Bennett’s Song “I left my heart in San Francisco”.
I was asked by many of my friends as to why I gave up this project. Looks like many people were following it, my audience was bigger than I expected. The answer is really not that complicated, I just got lazy 🙂 Bad, bad Andreea. But I decided to give it another try, see if this time I can take it past day 50. The rules are basically the same as last time. Take photographs everyday for a year and post the favorite (in my opinion) photo of the day from the place I happen to be at that particular moment.
I’ll try to restart the project tomorrow.

Bucharest. Dacia was the car manufactured in Romania during the communist regime. It was modeled after Renault 12. The first car was produced in 1969 and for the next 35 years the designed changed very little. It was discontinued in 2004. For many years my parents had one just like the one in today photo, in exactly this same ugly color. They used to be quite common 20 years ago but now I rarely see one on the streets of Bucharest.
Bucharest. Somehow my wanderings through Bucharest seem to end up in the same place, the Old Center, which in the last two years has become the number one spot for going out in the capital. In today’s photo we have Franceză (French) Street at night.
Bucharest. The bizarre looking balcony of a dilapidated house on Smârdan Street in the Old Center.
